
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The San Jose State University (SJSU) ice hockey team is a Division II member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). Since establishment in 1991, the ACHA has grown to become the largest collegiate hockey league in the United States, boasting five divisions and nearly 400 teams from across the nation. Established a year earlier in 1990, the SJSU hockey program has grown to become one of the West Region’s perennial powerhouses and an annual contender for the National title.
ACHA REQUIREMENTS
ACHA student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 by the beginning of a student athlete’s 2nd year of eligibility and must carry a minimum credit requirement of nine (9) semester units for undergraduates and six (6) semester units for masters or doctoral candidates per semester of participation.
TEAM REQUIREMENTS
The cost to play on the team is $3500. Cost of team equipment (such as jerseys, pant shells, socks, etc.) is not included in this amount. This fee is non-refundable and will be due in two installments: $2000 will be due on September 13th and the remaining $1500 will be due by September 23rd. Players who fail to pay their dues on time will be immediately cut: no exceptions. Players may be charged additional fees if the team qualifies for post-season play. Players are encouraged to seek ‘ sponsorship from corporations & private individuals to help offset their dues. Throughout the season, players will be required to attend all games and practices as well as various team-sponsored outreach and promotional activities. Detailed information on these and other requirements of team participation will be provided after the team has been selected
BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION
As a member of the SJSU hockey team you will be provided with a wide array of benefits. Here is a small sampling of what you can expect as a Spartan hockey player: A 36-game regular season schedule, including road trips to Colorado, Utah, Washington, and Los Angeles (travel and hotel accommodations are included in player dues); Two (2) seventy-five (75) minute on-ice practices and one (1) off-ice workout per week; and the prestige of playing for a program that has attended the ACHA National Tournament 9 times in the last 14 years, and will be hosting the tournament in 2011.
